"Driving you round the
bend”
Like racing? Like Mafia?
But do you like racing in Mafia? NO! Who does?
In about 20
missions of Mafia, there is one racing mission, in which you
MUST come in 1st place or you have to repeat the
level again!
The mission consists of 5 laps of a hard and
annoying track, containing more bends then a circle. There are some
straights however they will not give you enough of an edge to win!
You must master and become a god at turning while at high speeds.
The track looks like the picture shown
below…
As you can see, it’s not very nice! There are too many turns. You
start first off at a bend, and then you get a small straight until
the “u-turn”. This carries on to another bend and another small
straight to a right turn and a small straight. Then you get to an
“S” bend in the road, after this you climb a hill to a left turn and
back down the other side of the hill to a small “s” in the road
which leads to a larger left turn and then a smaller right turn.
Then you get near the end at the larger “U” turn leading back to the
final straight. Then comes the best part….completing it another 4
times!
Some people hate this point in the game, as shown below.

mission I believe is the harshest level in the game, I really see
this as a weak point in the game. Some people including myself don't
like racing games and if you can't get this done then you've just
wasted a lot of money!”

Anyway, you start the mission with 13 other
drivers, but as on the mission before you sabotaged one of the race cars, you will only need to beat 12 of
them. Sound easy? Nope, you
have to come first within 5 laps. Its quite easy to some people as
they are good at this, but all you need to do is master turning, but
its not only turning that’s the problem…if you are forced off the
road for any reason at high speeds you will smash into a wall and
most likely topple over causing you to instantly loose the mission,
this happens even if you are nudged and just topple without hitting
any walls while staying on the road. Learning to turn properly is
supposedly easy if you follow these guidelines:
First stop
accelerating and brake as you turn, stick to the optimal racing line
(i.e. approach bend from the outside and cut off through the inside,
exit again on the outside.) and don't get too crazy on the curbs or
you'll spin. But this is not a walkthrough so…back to the topic at
hand.
Myself I think that this racing idea was not a good one. They should have scraped it before they even started designing
it, It hard to complete with the most windy and annoying track. So
if this level cannot be completed by some people then what? They
either give up wasting the money they poured into buying the game,
or cheat.
All because Illusion Softworks wanted to fill a
void in the game…well next time don’t!
